Stop Applauding Global Misery

Watching the Jan 20, 2025 inauguration of President Trump, many things were said but one promise that the new president made stood out to me.

“We will tariff, and tax, foreign countries to enrich our citizens”

It wasn’t a surprise that Donald Trump said this. He had said it many times during his campaigns. But something I could not find peace with was that this statement received a thunderous round of applause from the audience.

It is part of the President’s idea of overhauling the U.S’ trade system to protect American workers and families. He sells it to the American people as the alternative to taxing Americans in order to enrich other countries.

As the U.S has the IRS that collects the taxes from Americans, he wants to achieve this by creating the ERS (External Revenue Service) to collect all the taxes in form of tariffs from other countries (as he puts it).

Many Americans (especially his supporters) think that this is a great idea even though there are so many economists and business owners saying that it is a terrible idea for American consumers.

To quickly discuss the benefits of these tariffs, if successfully implemented,
