I used to think that having actual experiences was the one thing anyone needed to be convinced of any truth about life.

For example, we live in a world where many people believe that we are alone in the universe while others don’t just believe but claim to know that we are not alone in this universe.

The latter group is convinced of this because they say that they have seen extraterrestrials.

For this group, their experiences support their conviction. They say they know, have seen, or been visited by these other life forms while for the rest of us, we only base our reasoning on belief.

Belief on its own is miles inferior to knowing.

In fact, belief is often overridden by knowing when facts and experiences present themselves in our lives.

Where belief can help us make peace with the unknown or unknowable, claiming to know what’s unknown or unknowable distorts that peace and casts us into confusion, contradiction, and various forms of conflict.

There are things that we all know.

You know what a phone is, who your parents are, where you had your first kiss (if you have had one),… and so on. These things are known to you. They are absolute…
