Why Trump Will Not Go To Jail

In 1972, the U.S. was dealing with interlocking political scandals involving then president, Richard Nixon. The world came to know these scandals under one name — The Watergate scandal.
The Watergate scandal sent shockwaves around the world and would eventually lead to President Nixon’s resignation as he was facing certain impeachment and removal from office.
But the wake of the Watergate scandal overshadowed another equally scandalous revelation involving Nixon’s then-vice president, Spiro T. Agnew.
At that time, the United States Attorney for the District of Maryland, George Beall, had opened an investigation of corruption in Baltimore County which involved many public officials including Angew as well as many architects and engineering firms.
At first, Agnew was not considered part of the scandal because this was 1972 and he hadn’t held that office since December of 1966 which would have meant that he wouldn’t be prosecuted for any wrongdoing while he held office because the statute of limitations had expired.
However as some engineering firms were served with subpoenas for documents, it was revealed that Agnew was still (as vice president) receiving kickbacks on the value of the contracts those firms had…
